How are Bybit transactions taxed?
Crypto activity on Bybit is taxable under most jurisdictions, even if conducted through derivatives or perpetual contracts.
Capital gains tax: Applies when you sell, swap, or close positions for profit. Your gain equals the difference between your acquisition cost (cost basis) and closing price.
Income tax: Applies when you earn crypto through funding payments, airdrops, staking, referrals, or Bybit Earn products. The fair market value at the time received is taxable income.
CoinTracker automatically identifies and categorizes these transactions across spot, margin, and derivatives markets to calculate your tax liability accurately.
Do I have to pay taxes on Bybit?
Yes.
All trading activity and income on Bybit are considered taxable events. You must report:
Spot and margin trades
Perpetual futures profits and losses
Funding payments (income or expenses)
Earnings from staking or Earn programs
Referral or airdrop rewards
CoinTracker consolidates your full Bybit activity to ensure every taxable event is tracked and reported correctly.
Does Bybit provide tax documents?
Yes — partially.
Bybit provides trade history, earn summaries, and funding fee reports you can download from your account.
However, it does not issue official tax forms such as Form 1099-B or 1099-MISC.
You can upload your Bybit exports to CoinTracker, which automatically calculates and formats your tax data for compliance.
How to get your Bybit tax documents
Log in to your Bybit account.
Go to Assets → Order History → Export Data.
Choose Spot, Derivatives, or Earn transaction types.
Select your date range or tax year.
Click Export CSV to download your files.
Upload your CSVs to CoinTracker, or connect via API for automatic data syncing.
When does Bybit issue Form 1099-MISC, 1099-B, or local equivalents?
Bybit does not issue U.S. tax forms (such as 1099-MISC or 1099-B) since it operates as an international exchange headquartered in Dubai.
However, users in regions with data-sharing regulations (e.g., EU DAC8, OECD CARF) may see activity reported to local tax authorities.
CoinTracker automatically creates the equivalent tax summaries you need to file in your country.
Why aren't my Bybit documents accurate?
Your reports may appear incomplete if:
You only exported spot trades and not derivatives or Earn data.
You traded using multiple subaccounts.
You participated in airdrops, copy trading, or funding rewards not included in the main report.
CoinTracker reconciles these across all Bybit products and your connected wallets to produce an accurate, complete tax report.
Does Bybit automatically deduct taxes?
No.
Bybit does not withhold or remit taxes for users.
You are responsible for declaring and paying taxes on your crypto gains and income.
CoinTracker automates this by calculating your capital gains, income, and losses across all Bybit transactions.
Does Bybit report to tax authorities?
Yes — in some cases.
Bybit complies with global AML/KYC standards and OECD information-sharing protocols.
Under frameworks like MiCA (EU) and CARF, Bybit may disclose user transaction data to regulators in supported regions.
CoinTracker helps ensure your self-reported data matches these potential disclosures.
Does Bybit provide financial or end-of-year statements?
Yes.
Bybit provides yearly account statements, transaction summaries, and funding fee histories.
Import these into CoinTracker to automatically generate capital gains, income, and portfolio performance reports.
